The Godspell Community Service Project: "Save Your Soles"

Bring your 'unwanted' tennis shoes to Lakeview Middle School starting November 8 thru November 13, collection before school or before the Godspell musical on Nov11-13. Look for the donation box in the school lobby and receive a piece of candy for each pair of 'unwanted' tennis shoes!

The following are the requirements for recycling your shoes:
  • Tennis/athletic shoes only, no other types of shoes will be accepted
  • Any brand of tennis shoe is OK
  • No metal: cleats, spikes, blades, zippers, etc.
  • Shoes must be dry and mud free
  • Pairs must be tied together

These shoes will be donated to Nike Reuse-A-Shoe, an athletic shoe recycling and reuse program. Nike's Reuse-A-Shoe program has been a resounding success across the country. Since the program began in 1993, some 15 million pairs of shoes have been recycled into Nike Grind, which is the sliced and ground up recycled shoe material. Nike Grind is used to make sports surfaces such as tracks, fields, courts, and playground surfaces. Nike develops relationships with a variety of sports surfacing companies to use Nike Grind in their product. The royalties made from these licensing agreements are used by Nike to donate sports surfaces in under-served communities around the world. Nike has donated over 150 sports surfaces since the program began in 1993 to communities that would otherwise lack surfaces like these. Shoes that aren't recycled will be reused. Remains Inc., the company which will ship and process the shoes from Kansas City, is a used clothing recycler located in St. Louis. Wearable shoes are exported to 3rd world countries.
